Testing, verification, and validation
Techteal can support you in all phases of the development process, for you to learn, implement and test/verify various ideas and solutions, focusing on Automotive Ethernet and Time-Sensitive Networking. You may use our expertise or buy off-the-shelf products to test, verify or validate on your own.

Ambition is to simulate and recreate the real world out there - under real-world conditions - but following OPEN SIG TC8 and TC 11 test recommendations.
Ethernet as a well-established technology is still challenging because of the complexity of testing. Based on the architecture and multiple protocols involved (7-layers of the OSI model) – engineers are challenged with different test methodologies:
-
Physical layer testing
-
Protocol conformance testing
-
Device- and network performance testing.

In the testing process, you need one or several tools which simulate the behavior of an application, function, device, or network, with the ability to investigate the behavior of your device/system/implementation under test under real-world conditions. This process is different from traditional test methodologies. The integration of multiple Ethernet devices and backbone components like switches or gateways into a network will always have different behavior than single components.

Just simulating other devices on the application layer only validates the functional layer, but not the network layer. Simulation of best- and worst-case scenarios on the network layer is essential for full validation. Adding a network simulation that incorporates the simulation of switch functionalities, protocol behaviors (like for instance time syncronization from IEEE Time-Sensitive Networking), or even network behaviors like delay, jitter, and packet loss can add to your validation.

Standard testing

New technologies often require new strategies for their analysis and validation. Techteal can assist you in developing efficient, flexible, and reliable test strategies. This includes in particular the development of standard tests for technologies such as Automotive Ethernet and its IVN protocols. We recommend the usage of RFCs, OPEN Alliance TCs (8 & 11), and other standards for benchmarking and interoperability testing. For functional testing, we propose using the extensive knowledge from previous projects with the simulation of real-world traffic. Techteal can help you create test systems, test specifications, and test cases, set test priorities, and develop customized test systems, using the best-suited components from our key partners.

Key areas:
-
Functionality testing
-
Simply, the system must consistently behave as the user expects and deliver
the performance promised in any reasonable scenario
-
-
Interoperability testing
-
In the automotive industry, the need to interact well with other third parties is a new challenge. Failure to confirm interoperability will negatively impact safety, customer experience, and public trust in a brand
-
-
Safety testing
-
Whatever happens, the system must not place the driver in danger. This
applies both to reliability (that it works) and latency (that it works quickly
enough)
-
-
Quality of Service testing
-
QoS is well established in telecom and computer networking, as
a measure of the performance experienced by users. As vehicles
become increasingly connected, it is essential to check in-vehicle networks
deliver as they should

Cybersecurity testing

MACsec is started to be interesting for Automotive cyber security

Test automation

Developing scalable tests has never been easier. By for instance, using a product called Ethernet Test Suite from Technica or TTworkbench from Spirent you can choose from a variety of already existing plugins and test solutions, or start your test automation project from scratch.

Comprehensive test automation ensures maximum reliability and reproducibility and automated test processes save time and are therefore particularly cost-efficient.

Key areas:
-
The Technica Ethernet Test Suite is a testing tool that includes OEM-specific Ethernet Tests: TCP/IP Stack, SOME/IP Stack, Stress tests, Diagnostic Jobs test, and more test cases depending on the OEMs specifications. It covers the testing needed after successful “compliance” testing and before “system integration” and “system function” test.
-
Spirent's TTworkbench is a full-featured integrated test development and execution environment (IDE) for any test automation project.
-
There are different ways of integrating a test suite into your management environment. Techteal and its key partners offer ready-to-use integration plugins, open integration, and development interfaces (in case your platform is not being supported yet), or full integration service.

Test scenario example

A PC/Laptop is the Tester which require full control over everything. It has to see everything and it has to manage everything in the complete scenario.

A typical set-up:
-
Connect Tester to (send), i.e. Stimulation
-
Connect Tester to (listen all). i.e. Logging
-
Connect Tester to (restart). i.e. Diagnose
-
Connect Tester to (modify system settings.), i.e. MediaGateway configuration
